u"We came to EVE with a single purpose.

The dream that order can persist against the chaos—that virtue, perhaps, could be upheld, given the patience, strength, and investment of those people which believed it was possible. To form nothing less than the culture that proposed an alternative to the violence of war not only explicit in the virtual world, but implicit in human nature itself.

It was that man's goal to seek out a philosopher's stone of culture—a combination of thoughts, words, and ideas that could compose a force so contrarian to the norm of this present life that through its sheer contrast to the surrounding world, it would become a transformative force. Like a growing seed or a single air particle becoming the whirlwind, it was one man's vision, and one man's pain, that proposed this idea. Through that pain, possibility was born.

I have seen this vision and taken part in it. I have been to the center of it and back—I have seen its rise and fall. Slowly and surgically taken apart from without and within, it was disassembled due to the vices and egos of those would either did not understand the vision or understood it fully, but wished to exact revenge on it nonetheless.

Is this a loss?

I would doubt it. The primary nature of EVE is Chaos. This man came to realize it, and he sought to fight it. I, in my life afterwards, sought to submit to it. However, we both sought virtue contrary to the norm. Yet this is what I realize now, after his and my time of hard work—of defending impossible ideals in a foolish landscape.

The nature of EVE is this: the medium is the message. By design it was created as a harsh, disparate world. Betrayal is encouraged. Vice is glorified. The rise and fall of empires is the nature of the game—that is the life cycle of this world. And while we both understood this, we sought to imbue in an empire everlasting ideals. We sought to fight an uphill battle.

Ultimately you will reach a limitation within the virtual, and the blurry line between the real and virtual finally ends and becomes clear. This is where EVE becomes EVE, and ceases to inform you and your humanity. It informs something else, and it does so to your base entertainment. I do not blame those who entertain it. But I know for myself, the time has come to forget these childish things, and create the worlds that I can create without such limitations.

Your goal is that of transformation. It always was. And transformed you have. We cease to exist in this world. When we finally have transformed through the few lasting times, then we may, finally, be able to cease our existence at all places.

May that day come on its own timing. But I—now I rest, and look forward to it, while I do what I was always meant to do. If I ever come back to this place, may it be for the purposes I am truly built to fulfill, and not for those I've already seen to be fleeting. May that choice never be reversed."
