It takes its origins from the Knights Hospitaller, an organization founded in Jerusalem in 1050 as an Amalfitan hospital to provide care for poor and sick pilgrims to the Holy Land. After the conquest of Jerusalem in 1099 during the First Crusade, it became a Catholic military order under its own charter. Following the loss of Christian held territories of the Holy Land to Muslims, the Order operated from Rhodes, and later from Malta, over which it was sovereign.<br><br>When man moved to the stars the Order of Malta moved and become a military order within the united catholic church, when the new eden wormhole closed the Order was kept alive until the Family Sarum needing a workhorse took the last Grand Master of the Order of Malta and formed the Order of Sarum to support Amarrian loyalist in the border zones of the empire.<br><br>The Order primary objective is Special Operations in the Amarr & Caldari Border zones.
